Resurgent Daniil Medvedev Wins First Trophy in 882 Days
Nineteen of the Russian's twenty-one championships have been achieved on hardcourt
A comeback Medvedev secured his initial title for over two years with victory over opponent Moutet in the tournament title decider.
The athlete, a former top-ranked player, has had a challenging period, winning just a single victory at the major tournaments and suffering a difficult moment at the New York tournament.
His inconsistency on the ATP Tour - and issues with his service game in especial - resulted in him falling of the world's top 10 and finally separating with long-time mentor his previous coach.
Currently training with Johansson and Rohan Goetzke, Medvedev has steadily progressed in the last few weeks - climaxing in a closely contested competitive win over Frenchman Moutet.
This marks his first title following the 2023 Rome Masters and maiden on a hardcourt since March of that year.
The win also signifies Medvedev has achieved 21 victories at twenty-one different events.
"This marks the first occasion I am participating in a competition with my both daughters simultaneously, so to secure a championship is especially meaningful," stated tennis professional Daniil Medvedev.
"This title is in honour of my child her name, because the first title I achieved when my first daughter my daughter was born was for her."
The athlete, the 2021 US Open champion, had been defeated in his past six championship matches, including in Halle earlier this year.
The player's defensive play style and frequent reactions on the playing surface had prompted observers to doubt if his ability to play at the elite level was over.
But the 29-year-old has implemented adjustments in recent weeks, striving to approach the net and perform assertively, reinforced by an improved serve.
He came back from a break down in the opening set against the tricky Frenchman, taking 4 of the concluding five exchanges to gain the advantage.
The pair swapped service breaks in the middle set before the challenger, bidding for his first tour championship, gained dominance to force a decider.
He rescued 4 early-game break points in a tight deciding set before the Russian broke to fifteen to serve for the match.
Suitably, Medvedev secured the win with a rally at the net area, with the Frenchman failing to handle a shot after over two and a half hours.
